The appointment will be on UCL Grade 8. The
salary range will be £39,668 - £46,822 per annum, inclusive of
London Allowance.
Duties and Responsibilities
The appointments
will be based in the new Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction,
whose aim is to provide a focus for UCL's risk and disaster
reduction (RDR) activities, which span earth and space science,
mathematics and statistics, engineering and development planning,
population health, anthropology, ethics and laws.
Appointments will be at lecturer level and made to the following
research foci: i) hydrometeorological disasters (i.e., windstorms,
floods and droughts), ii) geological disasters (i.e., earthquakes,
volcanoes and related hazards) and linking the two, iii) disaster
risk reduction (population health impacts, infection control, and
social reconstruction), but successful candidates should be able to
contribute to a multi-hazard approach.
Key Requirements
Applicants will have a PhD
in a relevant discipline with backgrounds in earth and space
sciences, mathematics and statistics, or engineering and the built
environment. Candidates must be highly motivated, with
interdisciplinary and international experience and are likely to
have held prestigious research fellowships, or have a track record
in winning research council funding, and have successful
publications in high-impact journals. Successful candidates would be
expected to assume leadership roles in the IRDR and work with
international partners to achieve research impact.
