York Reference: CSP 3652 Salary: from £31,944 depending on experience Fixed Term Appointment (3 years) Developing Novel Statistical Solutions to Risk and Policy Problems in a Collaborative Interdisciplinary Environment. The Food and Environment Research Agency's overarching purpose is to support and develop a sustainable food chain, a healthy natural environment, and to protect the global community from biological and chemical risks. Our role within that is to provide robust evidence, rigorous analysis and professional advice to Government, international organisations and the private sector. The Risk and Numerical Sciences team at Fera undertakes research, development and consultancy in the areas of risk and policy analysis, applied statistics, informatics and spatial analysis/geographic information science (GIS), for both internal and external customers. We now have an opportunity for a Senior Statistician/Risk Analyst to lead and carry out quantitative and probabilistic risk assessment research projects and secure funding for new projects. This is an important role where the successful candidate will contribute to the development of the team's overall scientific and business strategy, by developing areas of work that build on their own specialist skills. You will network with others to identify opportunities for new projects, prepare and submit detailed project proposals, carry out funded projects and supervise the work of other staff. You will take a key role in producing scientific papers, reports and presentations, lead meetings with customers and deputise for the Team Leader when required. A degree or equivalent qualification in statistics or mathematics with a strong statistics component and a post-graduate degree (MSc, Diploma or PhD) in statistics, mathematics or science with a strong statistics/mathematics component is required. Candidates without this level of qualification will need to demonstrate relevant experience and expertise. Experience of statistical/mathematical methods with potential for use in risk analysis is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of identifying new areas of work and designing and implementing strategies to make them happen. Highly self-motivated, you will be an excellent communicator able to work with modellers, statisticians computing staff and scientists across many disciplines.
