The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and the Council for Mathematical Sciences (CMS) are seeking a dynamic self-starter to support two distinct but linked areas of work: academic affairs in statistics and the wider mathematical science activities of the Council. This exciting combined role will help shape the future of the academic discipline in the UK.

By agreement with the other founder members, the London Mathematical Society and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, this position will provide management and secretariat support to the CMS. Working closely with the CMS Chair the post holder will take a pro-active and major role in helping to coordinate the common strategic voice of the member societies in order to influence and shape national policy for the mathematical sciences. This involves developing close working relationships with staff and officers at the partner organisations and the wider stakeholder community.

The Policy Support Officer will also support the activities of the RSS Academic Affairs Advisory Group. Working closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs the position will help develop and implement strategies around supporting the discipline of statistics in UK Universities and beyond. This will entail undertaking research projects and developing reports for the AAAG and helping to coordinate the voice of statisticians working in UK academia.

A background in mathematics, statistics or a mathematically based subject would be an advantage but is not essential.

Salary according to experience within the range £34,000 to £38,000
