Hi all,
I know it's not the best time of year to catch students, but am forwarding
details of a student competition from colleagues in Australia, as part of
the Asia Pacific Conference on Educational Integrity (URL at bottom of
email).
Sounds like a great idea!
Please contact Ruth directly if you would like further details.
Best wishes,
Gill

Dear colleagues,

It would be great if you could take the time to forward the following email
notice to your students or fellow teachers about a current video competition
on the theme of 'Plagiarism and Zombies', sponsored by the Asia Pacific
Forum on Educational Integrity.

The competition hopes to engage students to think creatively about issues
relating to plagiarism, which is often presented as an extremely negative
issue with punitive and frightening implications for their academic success.
We hope that students will be interested in contributing short horror videos
on the issue of plagiarism, and perhaps more broadly about academic
integrity - and shudder to think what they come up with!

If you would like some A3 copies of the attached competition poster, I'd be
happy to mail them to you!

best wishes
Ruth

What:
A student video competition on the theme 'Plagiarism and Zombies'

The challenge:
Can *you* come up with a scary, creative, or humorous video idea relating to
plagiarism? Your video can be in any horror genre - it might be about your
experiences at school or university dealing with learning about academic
integrity, ethical research and writing practices, or anything else related
to the theme of plagiarism and 'zombies'. For instance, do you think
plagiarism is contagious? What is the dark side of good research and
referencing? Have you been infected? Are you now running scared of the
plagiarism vigilantes?

Who:
This competition is open to all students currently enrolled in educational
institutions - you could be at a school, college or university.

When:
Your entries are due by the 1st September 2011

How:
Make a short video with your friends or class (max 4 mins), upload it to
YouTube, and send the link to APFEI along with a registration form listing
your name and institution. Entry is free! You can find more information,
instructions, registration forms and examples of previous competition
winners at: http://www.apfei.edu.au/activities/competition.html

Prize:
There will be AUD$500 worth of prizes, as well as 'Certificates of
Achievement in Educational Integrity' which will awarded by the Asia Pacific
Forum on Educational Integrity (APFEI). The winners of the video competition
will be announced at the 5APCEI conference at the University of Western
Australia 26-28th September 2011, and the three winning videos will be
screened on the APFEI website. You could become famous in the world of
plagiarism and academic integrity!
