medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Although not English, there is an extensive mid-13th-century visitation report by Eudes Rigaud, the archbishop of Rouen, which has been published, but I can't seem to find the entry for it in our library.

Another excellent set is: Alexander Hamilton Thompson (ed.), Visitations of Religious Houses in the Diocese of Lincoln, 1420-1449 , 3 vols. (Lincoln Records Society 7, 14 and 21; 1914-1929). For an extensive bibliography, see also: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/history/research_projects/monasticarchives/typology/visitation

This would interest me as well, as would any published editions of visitation records, whether to monasteries
or parish churches.

I feel I should know this but does anyone know of a convenient list of the English and Welsh abbeys that were exempt from episcopal visitation? I know of complete orders - Cistercian, Cluniac, mendicant, etc but I am interested in the individual houses of non-exempt orders that claimed this exemption.

I know that Westminster, St Albans and Bury St Edmunds made these claims and think that Glastonbury, Evesham and Waltham may also have done so but I am wondering if there is an absolute list to be found anywhere. All my obvious text books say 'houses such as' or 'including' and I would like a definitive list if one exists.

many thanks
