Katharine
Have completed this form for AS and A2 level and our candidates were all Chinese nationals. Have put this in the box. Would have been very useful I think to have a question asking if the candidates are mother tongue Chinese or not.
Could we in future also have a question -- How many students are going on to study Chinese at University which Universities and with what grades.

Will complete for GCSE too.

I have two students this year one student accepted into Leeds on 3 Bs to study Chinese and Spanish and one student hoping to study Chinese and Japanese with ABC at A2 rejected from both Leeds and Sheffield. He is an excellent student for Chinese (A star at GCSE with 95% in speaking ) It was the C in Geog at A2 that let him down. He is wait listed for Leeds and I have contacted Frances but she is on maternity leave. Any ideas about how to get him into a reasonable Uni gratefully received. This student is an excellent student for Chinese as has studied for 7 years and knows whats involved but on A2 grades he is rejected.
This is where we in schools need closer contacts withe the Universities.

Hope your summer is good.
Anne

Subject: AS/A2 and GCSE results for Chinese Summer 2011

Dear Colleague

I am writing to ask if you would click on the link below and fill in the following questionnaire about your school’s Chinese results this summer.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Chinese_exam_result

The Chinese Networks team is trying to collect as much data on this as possible so that:

·         We can use this to celebrate and demonstrate the growth of the study of Chinese across the country with key stakeholders and those in government

·         We are aware as quickly as possible of any issues arising so that we can have discussions with the Exam Boards if necessary.

The form is focussing on GCSE and AS in particular, but we would very much like to know about your A2 and IB results. Please do report these results (and any others) in the comments box.

Please be assured that the results of an individual school are for our internal purposes only, to be used in looking at overall trends across the sector.

Really hope that you will take the time to fill this in and return it as soon as possible. The ‘done’ button sends the survey to us automatically. You can either do the whole lot after the GCSE results come in next week or enter your school’s AS results this week first. When you press ‘done’, you will still be able to go back to the form to fill in the second half of it next week. If there is anything else you want to make us aware of specifically, please do follow this up with an email to [log in to unmask].

Best wishes and thanks in advance

Katharine
