Why not just point out to these annoying people that fines are completely avoidable, and explain how to renew items by phone or online - and then use this as a springboard for promoting your online services?

But fines are annoying, both for the customers paying them and the staff collecting them! If you feel sufficiently annoyed you could try and find a way of making them 'disappear' within your library service. Find a budget saving that will cover the revenue they generate and make a business case.

Hello there,

I don't know why people are asking me to make their fines "dissapear". I
expect it's because times are tough, financially.

I'm proud to be a librarian, but this is really beginning to annoy me!

Thank you for your responses

Regards,
Sarah Jenkin

Hi Sarah

I would say Librarian every time, it's what I am. I am curious, though.
Why do people expect you to make their fines disappear?

fines, i.e. make them dissapear, and it's become noticably more

alternative job description.
