The Centre for Obesity, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease (CODCD) is a pan-University research and education program that will focus Sydney’s unique mix of disciplinary depth and strengths to advance our knowledge and understanding of these diseases, their causes and societal impacts.  The CODCD will support a collaborative academic environment that creates new knowledge and methodologies and support their effective translation into innovative approaches that reduce the personal and societal burden of ODCD.  The centre aims to not just transform medical practice and health service delivery, but also the way we eat, work and live so as to prevent the development of ODCD and related diseases in the first place.  The contexts for studies will include impacts on individuals and communities and the role of government and NGO’s in the developpment of services, policies and approaches to avoid and alleviate health and economic impacts.   

 

As the Professor and Academic Director, you will establish the CODCD as the centre of excellence in the University for research and education supporting the centre’s vision and goals. You will be an active participant in the CODCD Senior Executive Group Committee, a multi-faculty governing board that oversees the CODCD. This role involves a close working relationship with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and other senior executive officers of the University, supported by a dedicated Chief Operating Officer (COO).

 

Furthermore, in partnership with the relevant faculties, you will ensure the content, quality and delivery of the teaching curriculum is of the highest standard. This curriculum work will see you liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders including researchers and appropriate University officers, health policy organisations, State and Federal Governments, funding bodies, major corporations and potential benefactors. 

 

Utilising your superior senior leadership and transformational management skills, you will develop, review and continuously measure CODCD performance against strategy and agreed benchmarks, including budgets and resources to ensure the CODCD is best positioned to respond to and benefit from government and other opportunities. Your commercial expertise will see you plan and forecast operating, financial and risk management plans in conjunction with the COO. Representing the CODCD on boards, committees of research and education related centres, universities, external organisations and public forums, you will consult and contribute to the development and implementation of procedures for effective governance of the CODCD. Your high level academic and professional standing with extensive research leadership experience including significant collaborative and integrated cross-discipline research will guarantee success in strengthening the CODCD’s position as a preeminent voice in influencing national health and reform.

 

The successful appointee will demonstrate significant skill in leading and personally delivering major programs in complex environments with multiple organisations and personalities. You will initiate, lead and manage change in a complex environment whilst understanding the sensitivity to different research cultures and academic disciplines.

Remuneration package: A competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications is on offer. The package will include an attractive base salary, leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation.

 

The position is fixed term for five years with possibility of renewal.
