Violence and Interaction: To create a new theory of violence from
the perspective of clinical sociology

Nakamura Tadashi(Ritsumeikan University)

My research interest is how the micro-sociological theory on abuse
and family violence is important to resolve some difficulties in
the interpretation of violence. In order to do so, scholars need to
create a new theory on clinical practice by linking the study of
masculinities with micro-sociology and the interaction theory. In
other words, in clinical practice scholars need to make a
distinction between the forensic system and the clinical theory
because family violence is a multidisciplinary subject. The current
studies in the field of family violence and abuse have a common
presupposition based on the theory of power and control. I think
this approach is not sufficient to understand family violence and
abuse as a total phenomenon because they are complex behaviors.
To create more comprehensive theory in human aggressiveness,
micro (personality theory)-macro (gender perspective) link needs to
be taken into consideration. My research on this project is the
first step toward the solution of this linkage. With collaboration
with some foreign research institutions, I am going to keep
conducting my research from now on, too.
