Dear all
A postdoctoral position for a crystallographer/ enzymologist is
available in the Division of Molecular Structure at the NIMR

Medical Research Council
National Institute for Medical Research

Structure and mechanism of the retroviral restriction factor SAMHD1
Division of Molecular Structure

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the laboratory of Dr Ian
Taylor to study the structre and mechanism of the recently described
retroviral restriction factor, SAMHD1. The primary focus of the
project will be to establish the relationship between the biochemical
and enzymatic properties of SAMHD1 and the mechanism of virus
restriction.
The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the
laboratory of Dr Jonathan Stoye.
Candidates should have a thorough training in the practical aspects of
structural and biochemical analysis of proteins as well as a good
understanding of enzymolgy. Enthusiasm to advance the project as well
as an understanding of retrovirology would be a significant advantage.
The successful candidate will have a relevant PhD or be in the final
stages of completing their PhD in biochemistry, biophysics or
structural biology. Knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques
and protein expression is essential. Previous experience in X-ray
crystallography, enzyme kinetics and the use of biophysical techniques
for the characterisation of protein complexes would be an advantage.
Applicants should be able to learn quickly, have an interest in
collaborative work, be able to communicate scientific ideas
effectively and have a proven publication record.
