I haven't used Nokia Ovi for texting but have used it for loading maps for sat nav and backing up contacts from my own phone. It worked but it ran slowly on Windows XP. You never know who's posted but there are quite a few negative comments on Ovi and how it runs on Windows 7.

Even if it could work with a non Nokia phone I'd investigate some of the other options ahead of the Nokia software.
