All very well but is the equipment to read them also built to last for a thousand years I wonder ?

And if it's not as good as the hype you can always get a refund in a couple of centuries,

There is a "Millenniata Starter Kit" on Amazon, including writer, for $208.99.
If this is as good as the hype it could prove very useful.

A new optical disc has been developed which supposedly could last for a thousand years. Unlike traditional DVD's or CD's this disc does not use organic dyes, but rather a "stone-like substance" which is etched with a high powered laser. The discs themselves are supposed to be fairly cheap, but I have not seen any prices for the special burner which would be needed to record data.
