If this is as good as the hype it could prove very useful. -----Original Message----- From: Archivists, conservators and records managers. [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Sara B. Sent: 19 August 2011 22:48 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: New 1000 year optical disc A new optical disc has been developed which supposedly could last for a thousand years. Unlike traditional DVD's or CD's this disc does not use organic dyes, but rather a "stone-like substance" which is etched with a high powered laser. The discs themselves are supposed to be fairly cheap, but I have not seen any prices for the special burner which would be needed to record data.
