Maria,
Dog footprints are discussed at some length in the following paper which
has references to other contributions:
Cram, Leslie 2000. Varieties of dog in Roman Britain. In: Crockford, S.J.
(ed) Dogs Through Time: An Archaeological Perspective. BAR
International Series 889, pp. 171-180. The largest dog track from Silchester is
illustrated and is about 10 cm long.

Carrying
on from the dog breed discussion, is there any way of distinguishing dog, fox
and wolf from paw prints in Roman tegulae? We have several from a Roman
public bath-house, and this is one of the questions we have been asked. And
are there any references to paw prints in general which should be
read?
From the comments posted earlier, I suspect I know what the
answer will be, but just in case.....
Thank you.
