The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has two places available for six-month paid internships, starting in the summer, open to confident scientific communicators.
NPL is one of the UK's leading science facilities and research centres. It is a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate standards, science and technology available.
NPL occupies a unique position as the UK's National Measurement Institute and sits at the intersection between scientific discovery and real world application. Its expertise and original research have underpinned quality of life, innovation and competitiveness for UK citizens and business for more than a century.
Your main task will be to help scientists seek out and agree good science web content, work up non-technical written summaries and facilitate the development of pages of scientific information for our website. This role will work in conjunction with our New Media Team. Web development experience is not required, but an understanding of what makes good web content is essential.
The ideal candidate would have:
confidence
self-motivation
great interpersonal skills
excellent writing, especially online content experience
attention to detail
background in physical sciences
good organisational skills
The internship is based at NPL in Teddington, south-west London, working in a team of ~10.
Salary ~£20,000 pro rata.
