Public Programme Manager, Salary: circa £30k (negotiable), Vacancy Type: Full-Time Position, Permanent Contract

The Royal Institution (Ri) is an independent charity dedicated to increasing knowledge of, excitement for and involvement in science and technology for current and future generations through its public and young peoples' programmes, history of science activities and scientific research.

As part of our commitment to life-long education, the Ri organises an events programme for the general public. With speakers ranging from popular faces such as Prof Brian Cox and Lord Robert Winston, and subjects as diverse as genetics and nanotechnology, these events capture the imagination of people from all walks of life. There is now a requirement for a managerial position to support the Director of Science and Education in delivering this programme. 

The position will hold financial and operational responsibility for managing and delivering the Ri public programme, which will include the development and delivery of events (both funded and income generating), ensuring that funding and sponsorship of events is achieved, marketing and promoting events and providing effective external and internal customer services. 

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level or equivalent (science degree desirable) and have experience in organising science events for the public, as well as the creative ability to enable the creation of new and engaging events. Excellent organisation and communication skills will be essential, as will general familiarity with science and technology.
