PROFESSOR IN SOCIOLOGY AND SOCIAL POLICY

SCHOOL OF SOCIAL AND POLITICAL SCIENCES

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences which is one of 16 faculties at
the University has a proud history and tradition of intellectual rigour.
It offers one of the most comprehensive and diverse range of humanities
and social science studies in the Asia Pacific region, and a vibrant
research and teaching environment. 

 

The School of Social and Political Sciences is currently experiencing an
exciting period of growth as it builds its capability and capacity
through the recruitment of world-class academic staff. 

 

Sociology and Social Policy is a young and dynamic department which
practices an empirically grounded and theoretically informed sociology.
It has more than doubled in size in the past five years and is now one
of the largest departments of sociology in Australasia. It has teaching
and research strengths in the fields of sociological theory,
globalisation, global migration, violence and human rights, urbanism and
urbanisation, biomedicine, law and society and social policy. It has
also developed a comparative sociological perspective with particular
expertise in East Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. 

 

You will:

 

- possess outstanding scholarship and research of international standing
in the field of sociology with a breadth of interests

- engage your vision and enthusiasm to foster excellence in scholarship,
in promoting research and research policy and in encouraging and
developing research training

- possess a strong commitment to teaching at all levels and to
innovation in curriculum design and teaching methods

- utilise your excellent management skills and willingness to perform
high level administrative tasks to provide leadership in policy
development in a discipline and encourage the development of staff.

 

This is an ideal opportunity for a distinguished senior academic working
in sociology to join a vibrant, rapidly growing school in a leadership
role. You will be expected to develop collaborative activities with
colleagues across the University. We particularly welcome applications
from colleagues with interests that link to key potential collaborators
within the University.  These include those with interests in law,
public health, education and social policy.
