As far as I understand it "migraines" (or indeed cluster headaches) are precipitated by disparate factors, which is why one size rarely fits all and they are notoriously difficult to control. My "triggers" evolved through my life and I treated them accordingly. I now remember getting headaches as a result of being a bit hypo and found that painkillers and a Mars bar helped, although chocolate for some is a definate no - no. This was when I had three small children - I dont think this is a coincidence. I now cant drink much orange juice made from concentrate, Gawd knows why so I just avoid it. Other people I know get the obligatory "friday night " migraine once the pressure of the week has wound down, some are definately linked with their hormonal cycle. One of my ex-in laws pulled a migraine out of her hat every time she wanted to avoid doing something....... . Personally would even have considered paracetamol as it wouldnt have had the oomph needed to shift the symptoms, either with or without sugar. Buy hey - if it works go for it, I think the end justifies the means in cases like this

Re: [OCC-HEALTH] interesting!

I suspect it could be the placebo, in effect a “sugar pill”. If it works then great.

Hi,

I thought I would share this as it certainly came as news to me! (Maybe I just don’t keep up as well as I should??!!)

I saw a client this morning who suffered with quite debilitating migraines until about 16 months ago. He was advised by his GP to treat these by taking 2 Paracetamol with water as soon as he felt one starting and then put a tablespoonful of sugar in his mouth and let it dissolve naturally. My client now swears by this and has not suffered from migraine since!

Has anyone else heard of this?

Rita
