And we have a local Norfolk taxidermist, Richard Brigham, who is very good at fish, and sympathetic to the needs of historic pieces.
I think there is always an issue of how much to do for display purposes - restoration or conservation? But it sounds like your items have lost much of their "originality" anyway.

I  also believe Dick Hendry still carries out such work privately

Warrington Museum had a lot of good work done by James Dickinson at Lancashire Conservation Studios, you could try them. Similar issues. Although I believe James is going to be off for a few months.

Subject: Conservators of mounted fish

Dear All

Isn’t plastazote interesting in close up!

Whilst a query is underway (as I  can never remember how to post a query), can anyone point me in the direction of conservators/ taxidermists who are good at conserving older mounted fish?  I  have several specimens with a combination of problems - water stains on the interior of the case, ground work mostly collapsed, poor re-painting, poor gap filling and painting over a repair, loose glass, missing side bits of glass from a cased specimen.  The specimen that appears to have been de-cased is also a bit somewhat under-filled.

Suggestions please.

Kate
