WELCOME TO THE MIDWIFERY EDUCATION ELECTRONIC MAILING LIST

The midwifery education list is an international 'forum for discussion on midwifery, reproductive and women’s health education'

This mailbase list was originally set up in October 2008 on behalf of the Education Standing Committee of the International Confederation of Midwives following the 28th Triennial Congress in Glasgow.

The aim is to create an international network for all people working in the area of midwifery and reproductive health education, provide an open electronic discussion forum and information resource. It aims to facilitate information sharing, (eg workshops, seminars, conferences and new issues in education) and to promote links, collaborative working, joint problem-solving and mutual support.

List Etiquette
=========================

The list is set so that replies to messages are directed to the list. This is deliberate. Generally, if responding to a message, it is best to reply to the list so that all members can benefit.

1. Consider whether replies should go to the whole list or only to the originator of the message.

2. Always use the "Subject" field in your mail messages. The benefits are obvious, particularly when browsing through the archives for a specific message.

3. The lines of your messages should be no longer than about 70 characters long. This makes for easy on-line reading.

4. Remember that the person you are replying to is human. The appropriate model is contact by letter rather than telephone or face-to-face contact. There are no vocal or visual cues to help you in conveying or understanding messages.

5. It is unwise to react quickly to a message, especially if it has annoyed you.

6. Refer to the message to which you are replying, summarising it if
appropriate.

7. Be careful with humour and sarcasm - it doesn't always read the way you intend it.

8. Don't overdo personalised signatures. These can soon grate on readers.

9. Don't send attachments to the list. They take up lots of disk space, can
crash users' email systems and carry viruses.
