The majority of our electronic resources are supplied by Ebsco, whose licences specifically state that access for alumni is not permitted - this also covers emeritus staff. So nothing to do with costs, its the licensing restrictions that are dictating this. Our authentication system is at present set up in such a way at the moment that we cannot pick and choose individual resources to be made available, which is why I was interested to know what other institutions offer in terms of e-access.

I'm told the licences cover only employees and students of the university.

However, I'm grateful for what I do get from the library!

I'm interested to know why ejournals and presumably other electronic resources are not included in ex-staff membership. Is it down to costs because of licenses or security because you are no longer a member of staff, or other reasons?

It seems like letting people see only half the library without this access, so defeating the object of offering retired staff etc membership.

Best wishes,
Steph
