Hi Claire, and all (especially Andrew whom I used to work with!),

Am following this discussion with great interest, as we have been
discussing community engagement at Bangor University Library lately, and
responding positively to requests for visits / access from local
community members (plus planning more proactive steps to let people know
they can use the university library); but of course are only able to
allow access to printed materials, as e-resources are subject to
licensing agreements.

I hadn't actually thought about access to e-resources for former
university members either, but it's a really good point to raise, and is
also an issue when people have formally/officially finished their course
at an institution but are actually still working on dissertations etc
(as sometimes happens).

It is really difficult when you are wanting to offer equitable access to
all to high quality academic resources, but due to the increasing
numbers of resources bought only in electronic form, are unable to
actually offer the same resources to all.
