SENIOR GIS ANALYST/TEAM LEADER (E&P) – PERMANENT - £50-60k + BONUS + OTHER BENEFITS - LONDON

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

This opportunity will suit a Senior GIS Analyst who has experience of managing people or an existing current team lead interested in a move.

- Experience with E&P industry data sources is essential!

- Act as the local Geomatics expert for Europe.

- Responsible for the direction, growth and support of a corporate GIS strategy to deliver accurate and reliable geographic data and services to all

GIS users within Europe as local in-house expert.

- Act as a manager for business related GIS projects, ensuring business needs are met to a high standard and on-time, on-budget.

- Substantial experience with ESRI GIS products (ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server)

- Training or experience with E&P industry data sources essential

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Lead and support the GIS team providing direction and long-term growth.

- Provide direction to the GIS team members when they are working with business areas by providing one-on-one assistance, demonstrating use

of GIS tools, troubleshooting problems and utilizing outside resources to answer questions about GIS usage

- Work with Global GIS Services to provide solutions for managing and using spatial data, analysing spatial data, describing spatial data, managing

workflows, and observing best practices in all areas of GIS especially spatial data management at the user level

- Understand the needs of the E&P business units and translate business requirements for GIS into recommendations for using GIS tools and spatial

data to help the customer make sound business decisions using spatial visualization, analysis and other GIS tools

 

JOB OUTLINE

- Senior GIS Analyst and GIS Services Team Lead.

- Supporting the team of GIS Analysts, Cartographers and business users of GIS, serving as a resource for ‘how-to’ knowledge and best practices.

- Lead on the future vision of GIS Services team.

- Supervise and mentor the GIS Services team.

- Coordinate and manage regular team meetings with the UK GIS Services team.

- Attend management meetings with the wider Technical Systems and IS teams.

- Maintain regular communication with global GIS Services.

- Provide input to the annual budget cycle and identify the need for any additional team resources.

- Working closely with Global GIS Services on complex problems that relate to Europe

business and helping to find viable solutions.

- Writing and communicating workflows and process documents.

- Trouble-shooting problems and advising on solutions.

- Encouraging and supporting further training in GIS knowledge and its application pertaining to

the E&P business industry.

- Maintain awareness of all projects assigned to the GIS Analysts; contributing to long-range

planning and anticipation of new GIS technology that might be needed.

- Provide input and approval authority for GIS Services UK to suggest required additions/amendments to E&P business

Spatial Data Model to the Spatial Data Management team and ArcSDE Admin.

- Monitor and support the capture and inputting of metadata by the GIS teams.

- Educate the business on advanced use of GIS tools for analysis of data, modelling, and other GIS tasks.

- Communicate how GIS can be used to new or potential GIS users in the business areas.

- Support the growth of GIS in Europe.

- Continue to attend training to further develop new GIS skills and learn new GIS technologies.

- Engaging with GIS IT Development team (in coordination with the GIS Analysts) in describing business cases for the

development of GIS tools, map services, and other solutions, providing documentation.

- Coordinate cartographic support requirements and delivery of service to the business.

- Manage the development of cartographic support to exploit GIS technology.

 

EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Geomatics Engineering, MIS or equivalent

- Substantial experience with ESRI GIS products (ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server)

- Considerable related E&P GIS experience as a Senior GIS Analyst along with some Geoscience/Engineering Support

- Leadership / supervisory / management training or project management training or experience is an asset

- Training or experience with E&P industry data sources is essential

- Strong working knowledge of map projections, datums, and transformations and able to verify data accuracy

- Ability to clearly translate GIS technical discussions to business application

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills

- High level of understanding of Geomatics and act as the local Geomatics expert to Europe

- Knowledge of best practices in GIS and Spatial Data Management

- Knowledge of E&P GIS data modelling

- Strong workflow evaluation skills

- Ability to work in a fast paced environment, juggling many projects and assignments at one time
