Dear All, This is rather an unusual Friday request! I am currently publishing a cookbook compiled in 1810 by my great-great-great-grandmother Jane Winnington-Ingram, who lived near Bewdley (her family worked at Worcester Cathedral – rather a churchy family, her grandson become Bishop of London). I am doing this as a fundraiser for a classical music community event (see www.blackislemessiah.co.uk) I am running at my home in the Highlands. The 1810 Cookbook is a full colour facsimile of the original – so hand-written script recipes by many different writers as well as Jane – and includes 155 surprisingly exotic recipes (for curry, pasta and mock turtle soup as well as butter made by burying it, among others), remedies (some for cholera) - and even one poem. The recipes/remedies are accompanied by detailed notes from me which include the life and times of Jane’s extraordinary family. There’s also a website to which people can post their own successful 21st century versions of the recipes, plus any queries or comments. The 1810 Cookbook will be perfect bound with an ISBN, and will retail for £19.95, plus P&P if ordered direct and will be available mid-August. I’d be really grateful if listmembers could let me know contact details for any museum, cathedral, heritage or archive centre shops they think might be interested in stocking it, or if any of you could perhaps use it as a basis for any archive-based primary-source late Georgian/early Victorian education activities. I’m happy to send out a sample facsimile recipe if anyone would find it useful (or just fancies cooking one), plus further details if anyone needs them. Have a lovely weekend – the sun is shining here at last after drenching the Scottish Open last weekend...
