Dear colleagues,

Job opportunity: Engagement Officer (Further education)

£31,495 one-year fixed term appointment

35 hours per week

Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) supports the UK further and higher education sectors to advance equality and diversity for all staff and students.

We wish to appoint an Engagement Officer to facilitate delivery of ECU services and projects in further education, a significant element of which will be with colleges in Scotland. This position is based in London, but will require frequent travel to Scotland and liaison with Scotland's Colleges.

The appointee will research and develop a range of projects addressing different aspects of equality for staff and students within the further education sector. They will provide a lead contact for ECU's work with colleges in Scotland, and it is expected that they will also work across policy areas and further and higher education sectors in all four nations of the UK.

The Scottish Funding Council has provided resources for ECU to support colleges in Scotland over the next 12 months. This is an exciting opportunity to join ECU and ensure that our services to colleges are delivered to the high standard that we achieve in higher education. The role sits within the Stakeholder relations and communications team, but links with the Policy team will be strong.

The post is offered on a one-year fixed term contract renewable subject to funding.

Responsibilities will include:

Primary contact for colleges in Scotland and further education in the rest of the UK

Providing policy direction on initiatives in further education

Contributing to projects relating to all equality areas, with particular focus on issues relating to further education

            Researching and analysing equality issues

Working closely and collaboratively with partners and other sector organisations

Presenting and facilitating workshops and representing the organisation at external events

Drafting and updating publications and web pages

Responding to enquiries from the further education sector

We are looking for applicants with a first degree or equivalent who can demonstrate knowledge of equality and diversity within the further education system. An experience of working within the Scottish education system would be an advantage in order to foster constructive relationships and develop projects with partner organisations in Scotland.
