Dear all,
I am working with colleagues on a notion of extended extension:

'Extended Extensions

What is it?
An Extended Extension is a reasonable adjustment, agreed in advance, for disabled students who fit a particular profile: where the impact of the student’s condition means that it will always take them significantly longer to complete assignments when compared with their peers. Even with assistive technology or with a non medical helper. This adjustment removes any potential system barriers.

Who does it apply to?
This applies to a group of students who have disclosed a diagnosed condition and provided medical evidence to the Student Enabling Centre. And for whom the impact of the student’s condition means that it will always take them significantly longer, when compared with their peers, to complete assignments. Even with assistive technology or with a non medical helper.

I have a disability does this adjustment apply to me?
Not all disabled students will be entitled to this adjustment. Students are only eligible if, even with their assistive technology and non medical helpers, they will always take significantly longer than their peers to complete assignments.

Students with disabilities who are not eligible for this measure may apply for seven day extensions as any other student can. This can be with the endorsement of the SEC, where the School/ Registry is requested to look sympathetically on any application for an extension from that student.

How do I request extended extension?
This will be assessed by a Disability Adviser at the Student Enabling Centre.'

This is a draft explaining its function and form.

Do other colleagues use this or similar?
Regards,
Lucy
