Position Overview:
Southern Cross University is seeking to appoint a highly skilled, creative and enthusiastic postdoctoral research fellow with expertise in Anthropology, Sociology, Human Geography, or a related field.  The School of Arts and Social Sciences is a large, multi-disciplinary School which offers programs across Southern Cross University’s Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Gold Coast and Tweed Heads campuses, and via distance education. The School offers a range of awards in the areas of Humanities, Media, Contemporary Music, Visual Arts, Social Sciences and Ageing on-campus and in flexible delivery modes, all of which include Honours.  The successful applicant will assist with the development and implementation of a research program on the social and political economy of alternative food systems in the Northern Rivers Region. The research will focus on the role of the small producer (and/or networks of producers) involved in new crops and cropping techniques (e.g. green/organic agriculture and/or indigenous 'bush foods').  The successful applicant will work closely with the chief investigator and other team members, and may be involved in the supervision of honours and postgraduate students.

Selection Criteria:
Ideally, the appointee should possess the following qualifications, skills, abilities and experience:
1. PhD in a relevant discipline.
2. Experience in the substantive area of research the relevant literatures in one or more of the relevant disciplines.
3. Sound coordination, organisational and project management skills.
4. A track record in research.
5. High level written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
6. A demonstrated ability to effectively function as a member of a team.
7. A demonstrated capacity to meet deadlines and milestones.
8. A capacity for adaptability and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.
9. Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equity in the workplace.

Minimum Standards for Academic Levels:
A Level B academic will be required to engage in one or more categories of scholarship on an independent or team basis in his or her discipline or related area. A Level B academic will make an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise and coordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff, as appropriate to the discipline.  A Level B academic may be required to contribute to the scholarship of teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, engage in independent research and/or professional activities appropriate to his or her profession or discipline. He or she will normally undertake administration primarily relating to his or her activities at the institution and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of and related administration for the coordination of an award program of the institution.  A Level B academic may be required to supervise postgraduate research students or projects.  A Level B academic would normally have experience in scholarship activities, which have resulted in publications in refereed journals or other demonstrated scholarship activities.
