*Job description*

The Wageningen Cultural Geography Chair Group offers a rewarding career path as an Assistant Professor in the field of Cultural Geography. The two new Assistant Professors will participate in research projects focused on the cultural geographies of travel and landscape, with emphasis on questions of power and knowledge. The group is committed to social theory in all its spatial articulations and has a strong international reputation in landscape studies and tourism studies, while it intends to expand its more recent theoretical interest in the spatial dimensions of ‘the political’.

The candidates will be responsible for research projects in the fields of cultural geography and geography of tourism. The two positions are also aimed at covering two important areas of teaching for the group. One of the candidates will be expected to teach a course in Geography of Tourism in the newly established BSc in Tourism and to give a substantial teaching contribution to the MSc in Tourism, Leisure and Environment, while the other will teach two courses of Cultural Geography in the Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning curriculum (BSc and MSc). The candidates will develop a research profile capable of attracting PhDs and external funding, and will be expected to contribute in significant ways to the international profile of the group in the field of cultural geography.  

*Requirements*

The successful candidates must:
- hold a PhD, preferably in human geography; a PhD in other related social sciences will be taken into consideration
- show an outstanding early career publication record and international research profile, together with a long-term vision for her/his contribution to the field of cultural geography
- have recognized teaching skills and experience in the field of human geography
- show the ability to acquire externally financed projects
- have an excellent command of English.

*Conditions of employment*

Wageningen University offers a full-time (38 hours per week) contract for 3 years, which can lead to a permanent employment contract. Gross Salary: from €3195,00 to €4374,00, based on full time employment and dependent on expertise and experience. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for a tenured position at the level of associate professor.
