Hi Ben,

I'm very interested in doing something similar within the next couple of years or so, I think Water Aid is certainly a good start, also worth a look is waterforkids.org.uk, which is a small charity set up by Environmental Health Officers and provides safe water, sanitation and health education for children and communities in developing countries. They currently have projects in Uganda, Zambia, Peru, India and many other places.

Kind Regards

Subject: Not Touting for Trade... an African Drought inspired plan...

I was affected by the drought issue in Africa today on the TV and Radio and, being a child of live aid, I though a long hard think about the water sampling I was doing (Today) and I know I do a reasonable job as a CL-CLO in my LA and as a PWS sampler, but I think I have a skill set I’d like to use in assisting water well development aboard, and a change of career direction every now and then is healthy, the kids are growing up, I’m needed less at home, the wife is becoming a deputy head etc...  It all seems to fit.

Essentially I’m asking if anyone has contacts with organisations that may need a reasonably experienced, conscientious community minded engineer / project manger type with 5 years direct SI background, and ten years admin/project management and is wanting to be of service to people in need, and I am now a Environmental Health Officer,(did an M.Sc) I’d like to know who they are.

I’m also an athletic coach for fell and mountain running and I organise and assist with local community events quite frequently and help with the Incredible Edible Todmorden Community Scheme, really I’m just fabulous (to quote Joanna Lumbley).

If you have had contact from charities or organisations that might need this type of person, please let me know, I’ll take it from there.   I thought I’d ask the great knowledge base that is the strategies list if they have had any of this sort of contact, I don’t want to take work off people or get in your way but, esteemed colleagues, I cast my lot among you.  I will be asking charitable organisations as well directly and we’ll see what come of it.

Ben
