Title of Research Project

Techniques and materials used in wall paintings, from the Classical to the Roman period, in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Fellowship Description

This will be a study of the evolution of techniques and materials used in wall paintings dated from the Classical to the Roman period with a specific focus on the geometric and vegetal iconography. This will be a diachronic assessment of the different kinds of painting techniques and uses, and their evolution in the Eastern Mediterranean.

 

Academic Requirements

Eligible applicants for this Fellowship (equivalent to a PhD position) must be in possession of a Master degree (MA/MSc), in the field of archaeology, or materials science, or chemistry, or conservation.

 

It is required that the degree has been acquired not more than 4 years earlier to the envisaged starting date.

 

Applicants should also have good knowledge of both English and French languages, as the successful candidate will be asked to submit project reports in English and his/her doctoral thesis written partly in French.

 

The Post is offered in the context of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network and transnational mobility is a key element of eligibility. As such, applications will only be accepted from candidates who have spent more than 12 months in France within the last three years. Candidates’ eligibility for the post is determined by Marie Curie terms and conditions.

 

Duration of fellowship

3 years – starting from October 2011. This post is full time and fixed-term.

Financial regime

Fellowship covers monthly salary for three years and other allowances in line with FP7- PEOPLE-2010-ITN. The annual salary is approximately 42.388 Euros before tax and national insurance deductions.
