A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION is available beginning Aug 1, 2011 in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, University of Minnesota (Twin Cities Campus).  

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or biophysics, with 3+ years research experience in the area of structural biology directed to the discovery and design of small molecule medicinal agents, and demonstrate broad proficiency in experimental macromolecular crystallography.  Extensive experience in molecular biology, protein purification with emphasis on identifying soluble constructs of macromolecules suitable for crystallization, and co-crystallization of protein-ligand complexes is required.  Experience with fragment screening by thermal shift and/or BSL3 laboratory procedures for handling infectious agents will be a plus.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership qualities and motivation to develop new strategies and research in infectious disease and antibacterial drug discovery.  As a senior member of a laboratory involved in graduate and professional education, the candidate will also be expected to mentor junior researchers. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated patience and a willingness to help others in pursuit of broader laboratory goals.
