No, I don’t mind at all – the more of us that request these enhancements, the more likely they are to happen (that’s the theory at least!). Feel free to copy and paste.

Julie Usher in University of Northampton has raised such requirements on Bb wiki and blog with Bb representatives in one of regional user group meetings and we were told to raise enhancement request at BtB site en masse.

Julie posted her request she made to Bb and I have followed suit. Here is Julie’s request. Hope she would not mind me posting it here.

Improvements to blog and wiki tools

Below are some suggestions for improvements to the blog and wiki tools in Blackboard. Many of these features are already available in products from Bb’s competitors, but if they could be incorporated in the Blackboard Learn core product, I feel the integration would provide a better experience for our users.

-          Templates: the ability to create pre-structured blog posts and wiki pages from templates, with prompts or instructions for students.

-          Granular permissions (e.g. allowing one group to edit and another to access read-only or comments only).

-          Import and export options, including portability into other common platforms (such as Wordpress or Blogger) and/or using standard specifications like Leap2A.

-          Cross-course sharing: if blogs and wikis could be linked in to more than one course or organization site, and be editable from either/both.

-          Options for public access.

-          RSS and email subscription options.

-          Widgets – the ability to include common tools such as tag clouds, twitter feeds etc.

Yes Jie, that's exactly what I meant!

When we had the Learning Objects suite, you could export blogs, wikis and journals as zipped up HTML; and you can do so also from PebblePad. It's something users expect to be able to do with personal data.

I think Andy meant not being able to export  wiki and blog is a shortcoming of the software – room for improvement.

Hi,

Blogs and Wiki’s are ‘User data’ so are not ‘course content’, User data is only propagated with a Archive/Restore. Course content can use Export/import

Tyrone

We’ve not found a way of exporting blogs or journals (we’re on SP1, so this might have changed)

Using the Blackboard export function doesn’t export them in a way which is usable outside of Blackboard

It is definitely a shortcoming of the software – room for improvement

Dear All,

Our institution hasn’t quite upgraded yet but a colleague already has an issue with the new blog tool.

They are exporting / importing a course area in preview accounts, and have lost the blog. Is this a known issue?

Some staff and students will also want to export their blog, to take away (especially HE students), further develop by importing into another blogging sites / webpage or just keep as work. I can’t see a clear way of doing this.

Is this possible?

Many thanks in advance

Ty
