ASSISTANT CORPORATE RECORDS MANAGER
Barts and The London NHS Trust

Grade: Agenda for Change Band 6
£30,634 to £40,406 per annum (inclusive of London weighting, 2011-12 pay scales)

Barts and the London NHS Trust is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in the UK with around 8,000 employees and three hospital sites.

Based at Prescot Street near Aldgate, the Corporate Records Management team is part of the Trust's Information Governance department.

The team manages a Records Centre for the storage of many different types of non-current corporate records, provides records management policy and strategy advice and guidance to the Trust, and ensures compliance with the Freedom of Information Act and several sections of the NHS Information Governance Toolkit.

You will manage the Records Centre on a daily basis, ensuring efficient processing of enquiries, accessions and disposals of a wide range of record types originating from almost all departments across the Trust.

You will work closely with the Corporate Records Manager to support the Trust's Records Management Policy and Strategy, develop procedures and guidance, liaise with departments and Hospitals distributed on several sites and promote best practice in records management for both manual and electronic records. This is a fast-paced, fast-changing and pressured environment with many exciting challenges and opportunities for developing your professional records management and information governance experience. These include major moves from existing into new Hospital buildings, major organisational changes including a potential merger with two other East London Trusts, and the development of a new Electronic Records Management system for Health Records.

You will also be fully involved in ensuring the Trust's compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, liaising with staff at all levels to answer frequent, complex and high-profile queries from members of the public and the media to strict statutory deadlines. This is a fascinating area of the role which requires a very high level of skill in written and verbal communication and an ability to maintain up to date knowledge of changing developments in case law and legislation. The ability to work effectively with staff all across the organisation is crucial for this role.

Happy to work alone as well as being part of a small professional team, you should have a post-graduate qualification in archives and/or records management and as such be able to demonstrate understanding of the latest professional standards, legislation, theories and practice in records management, both manual and electronic. You must be able to work in a fast-paced, pressured environment, have practical experience of working in a Records Centre environment with a variety of types of records, a good knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act, and a keen interest and enthusiasm for both Records Management and Freedom of Information.

The post-holder must be capable of undertaking frequent manual handling duties.
