The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. The Unit is offering an exciting opportunity to work in Bayesian hierarchical modelling, in particular statistical analysis of and methodology relating to inference on dynamical systems, i.e. where some of the model components are defined in terms of differential equations. Application areas are varied but the Unit is currently involved in areas such as glucose control in diabetes management (development of an artificial pancreas), infectious disease dynamics, e.g. swine flu, and computational biology/genomics.
You will have a PhD in statistics, or relevant subject, and statistical computing experience, e.g. R, BUGS. Some knowledge/experience of Bayesian computation and/or differential equations would be advantageous, but training can be provided. You must have good communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to writing scientific papers. Depending on the skills and interests of the successful applicant, there will be an opportunity to contribute to the development of internationally renowned software at the forefront of statistical modelling (BUGS: http://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk/bugs/ ).
The position is a 3-year Career Development Fellowship. Starting salary will be in the range of £26,022-£27,623 per annum.
