Associate Professor in Religion and Society/Interreligious Studies
The Faculty of Theology has a vacancy for a full-time Associate
Professor with a particular obligation to engage in research, teach and
supervise in the field of religion and society/interreligious studies.
Thematically, methodologically and theoretically, this field is still
under development. It involves broad interdisciplinary collaboration
between the faculty's own teaching staff and colleagues from other
relevant areas at the university. Several PhD candidates work in the
field. In addition to forming the basis for the Religion and Society
study programme and for the continuing education programme in
interreligious studies, the field also has an important role in the
university's inter-faculty research network, PluRel (Religion in
Pluralistic Societies).
Work on theoretical and methodological issues has an important place in
this field. Key research topics are: comparative religion studies in a
social science perspective, religious processes of change in pluralistic
societies, conflict and dialogue between religious traditions and texts,
the relationship between religion and gender, the relationship between
religion and normativity, and the relationship between religion and
secularity. The faculty will emphasise qualifications and experience
that can help to develop the field as it is described here.
The successful applicant must be capable of teaching the Religion and
Society study programme, and should also be capable of contributing to
other study programmes, as well as to the research training that forms
part of the PhD programme. Active participation in international
academic forums and the ability to cooperate with others will be
emphasised. The appointee is also expected to contribute to building up
the faculty's research groups.
Requirements/qualifications:
Applicants for the position must have higher education in theology, or
equivalent relevant education in the field of religion or social science.
When assessing applicants, the faculty will, in accordance with the
relevant regulations for the University of Oslo, primarily emphasise the
submitted scholarly works. When ranking applicants, emphasis will also
be placed on documented activities in research dissemination, teaching
qualifications, experience of supervision and other activities relevant
to the position.
Interviews will be used in the appointment process, and applicants may
also be required to give a trial lecture.
The appointment procedure is also governed by the 'Rules for
appointments to Professorships and Associate Professorships'.
