Hi Virginia,
I agree with Georgina. It doesn’t appear to be very well made. I can’t really make out the Chinese characters (my Chinese is not that great) but I think it says
the maker’s / manufacturer’s name (ok this maybe rather obvious and not much help). However, it is interesting to see the Swastika sign on the mark which is often used in Buddhism. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika#Buddhism (apologies for using Wikipedia!).
Possibly an incense holder for a temple?? A wild guess and it just reminded me of those you see at outside the temples’ courtyard.
Cheers,
Ran

Hi Virginia
The five clawed dragon is traditionally a symbol of the Chinese emperor, it was not supposed to be used outside of the imperial court. These ones are flying through
the air chasing a flaming pearl of potentiality (which represents truth and wisdom). This is quite a common design motif on Chinese decorative objects. It’s either Chinese, or mimicking Chinese design. I don’t know enough to be able to identify the mark,
but if you send this to the Chinese collections SSN, they will be able to interpret it further.
If it were a Chinese imperial object of some age, then it would certainly have a value but I wouldn’t get your enquirer’s hopes up too much just yet. There are
lots of replicas, European copies and later mass-produced things about.

Good afternoon everyone
Good someone please identify/date this pot/urn that has been brought into the museum for identification. The owner has been told it could be valuable. He purchased it at a car boot sale. He has been told the 5 toes on the dragon has some
significance? He has also been told that the markings on the bottom of the urn represent a seal of some kind. Their meaning would be of interset, if anyone can decipher them.
Thank you, & have a nice week-end.
