The successful candidateshould have significant graduate level training in a broad ReligiousStudies/Asian Studies Program or its equivalent with a primaryspecialization in South and Southeast Asian Buddhism and a secondaryconcentration on religions of India. This candidate will be expected topossess extensive knowledge of the cultural, historical, andphilosophical developments of Buddhism and other Indian religions acrossSouth and Southeast Asia. Advanced candidates in Ph.D. (ABD) programsare welcome to apply; however preference will be given to candidateswith a completed Ph.D. and some teaching experience. Competence in theprimary source languages including Pali and Sanskrit and an in-depthunderstanding of the theoretical and comparative issues leading to across-cultural perspective will be an asset. In light of theDepartment's commitment to innovative and interdisciplinary inquiry, weespecially invite candidates whose teaching and research attractsstudents in the departments of History, Languages and Linguistics,Philosophy, and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Culture and Creativity(ICCC) in the Division of Humanities.The responsibilities of the position include 18 cu in the areas of Southand Southeast Asian Religions, World Religions, theoretical andmethodological issues in Religious Studies, and any other assignedclasses, along with committee work appropriate to the academicpreparation and rank.The University of Saskatchewan is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, acity with a diverse and thriving economic base, a vibrant arts communityand a full range of leisure opportunities.
