Applications are invited from experienced professionals to undertake the role of Specialist Assessor for the AUA Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (higher education administration and management) (OUVA)

 

Specialist Assessors will need to have:

·         experience of level 7 assessment in management, education or professional education disciplines

·         specialist knowledge in one or more of the knowledge areas:

-       Higher Education in Society

-       The Learning Experience

-       Administration and Management of Higher Education

·         an awareness of national and international developments within HE generally

·         recent experience at a senior level within HE in a field relevant to the chosen specialist knowledge area

·         experience of work-based learning

·         an understanding of the value of CPD

·         a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area

·         the ability to contribute to the development and enhancement of the assessment process

 

Specialist Assessors are responsible for:

·         assessing a given number of knowledge assignments and drafts (up to 3000 words) in their chosen specialist knowledge area(s) in accordance with the assessment criteria published at that time

·         ensuring that in assessing assignments they adhere to the programme regulations and guidelines in force at the time

·         identifying instances of plagiarism and informing the AUA National Office of the details

·         ensuring that the assessment and return of assignments to the AUA National Office is completed within a specified period (normally four weeks), and that all relevant deadlines are met

·         providing written feedback on all assignments marked

·         attending meetings of the AUA Assessment Board as required

·         attending relevant training and briefing events

Selection of Assessors

Applications will be considered by a panel consisting of:

·         chair of the Board of Studies

·         another representative of the Board of Studies

·         a colleague external to AUA and the programme

Assessors will be appointed on their ability to fulfil the criteria listed above.  Applicants may be interviewed to further assess their suitability.

 

Terms of appointment

Assessors will be appointed for a period of three years in the first instance.  They will be remunerated at the rate of £15 per assignment.  Travel expenses incurred travelling to and from meetings of the AUA Assessment Board or training days will be reimbursed at the standard AUA rate.
