The main problem with the science of psychology is that it is too near-excusively based on clinical empiricism and (generally flawed use of) statistics instead of a lot of theoretical thinking based on a little neurophysiological empiricism, and a good deal of introspection and simple experience of people in ordinary life.  

It's funded the same way poetry is: one's pay depends on one's credentials, not one's abilities.
