Hi all
My personal view – and it is a personal view and not one based on science – is that I agree with some of what you say but the looking and being more professional bit is a very important part of what we do. I have used different vision screeners over the years and also a snellen chart which when using different venues is not something I have found easy. I don’t feel particularly professional sticking a snellen chart on a wall with a bit of blue tack or micropore, measuring out the required distance – often round various bits of furniture in a small space, putting a bit of tape on the floor and then asking the client to stand behind it and cover up each eye with card, hands, book or whatever. The client invariably leans backwards or forwards, depending on their level of long or short sightedness introducing a too much room for error and blurs the eye you’re going to test next. I also think there is too much room for error when judging degrees of peripheral vision. Much better to have a box that takes those potential errors away. I agree that we only screen and don’t diagnose but I feel far less challengeable with a properly set up machine.
Thanks
Lindsey

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Vision screeners - views please (pun intended)
Hi everyone
I have been doing a fair bit of vision screening recently and I’m beginning to question what the value is of vision screen machines - e.g. Keystone, Optec, Titmus - compared with Snellen charts and near vision booklets (+ Ishihara for colour blind test if necessary). Are they worth the additional expense and bother of transporting? If there is a concern from a DSE user perspective, would they not be better having a full eye test by an optician, as per DSE Regs? Is there a time when using the machines has a definite advantage over simple charts? Or are we just using them to look more professional?
I’d really value your opinions.
Thanks in advance

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Vision screeners - buying and selling
Hi all
I have two Optec 5500 Vision screeners that I am looking to sell (excellent condition and hardly used) . They are fantastic machines to have mostly in one place but not great for portable use. Not too heavy but big. Hence I am looking for something smaller and interested in any keystones out there. If anyone is interested in buying the Optecs and/or selling keystones or similar then please contact me off list on [log in to unmask] or mobile number below.
Thanks
Lindsey
