Dear All,

My name is Rachael Hartiss and I am a Library Science Master’s student at City University London.

I am embarking on my dissertation looking at the future role of the academic librarian. I am hoping to find kind academic librarians willing to participate in a Delphi study on this subject. I hope to garner responses to a series of statements generated from the literature regarding the role, knowledge, skills and competencies of the academic librarian in the year 2020.

I hope to find participants who:

· Work as an academic librarian in an UK institute of Higher Education (this can include academic librarians at assistant and senior level).

· Have worked as an academic librarian for a minimum of two years.

· Have an interest in the topic.

If you meet the above criteria and are able to assist I would be very grateful if you would email me directly to express your interest. It would be useful to hear from interested parties by the 24th June 2011. I will then be in touch with fuller details of the study and a likely timescale.

If you are interested in participating it is anticipated the study will consist of an initial round of where participants will respond to and rate statements, followed by a period of time when I analyse the responses from the first round of questions. There would then follow a second round where I will invite further comment from participants in reaction to the set of responses as a whole and the anonymous positions of other participants. All communication will be through email and confidentiality and anonymity will be guaranteed. I would also be willing to share the anonymised results of the study with interested participants.

If you are unable to assist with the study but would be available for a pilot study to ensure the questions and statements are not ambiguous or misleading then I would be very grateful for that also.

Many thanks in advance.

Best wishes,
Rachael Hartiss
