I agree with the Portuguese cardinal when he says that "theologically there is no fundamental obstacle" to the ordination of women.  But I disagree when he says that it will happen "when God wants it."  No, it will happen "when the Vatican wants it."  And I believe that now is the time to raise the question, even though we might never see it in our lifetime.  If not now, when?

Raising the question now also serves to raise very important questions about the absolute Roman monarchy that we have inherited from the Roman empire.  For this imperial system of governance, with the pope as a semi-god, is one we inherited from the Roman empire and the subsequent "Holy Roman Empire," not from Jesus or the early church (Cf. Acts 15).  Indeed, the time is now!
