Partnerships and collaborations seminar
Monday 27th June 2011
1030 Registration, Seminar 1100 until 1600
The Quilt Museum and Gallery, St Anthony's Hall, Peasholme Green, York, YO1 7PW

Building successful partnerships is an essential part of a cultural organisation work; it can increase audience participation and allow new interpretations of existing collections. Touring exhibitions are in such a position so that an organisation’s collection can be utilised in partnership to inform, entertain, and educate new and existing audiences, increase access to collections, and bring the collection out of the organisation and to the public.

But partnerships take time to develop and it is important that relationships are nurtured, partnership opportunities are mapped, and collaborations well managed. TEG has commissioned this seminar to look at the best practice in partnership working, provide delegates with knowledge to develop new partnership, and inspire organisations to think how they can develop their partnership offer.

With an introduction to partnership working from Emma King, and speakers from Tyne and Wear museums discussing their dispersed collection exhibitions and partnership mapping; National Museums Liverpool speaking about their successful Plantastic exhibition and the Quilt Museum talking about their current partnership activities there is a wealth of knowledge and experience to hear about.

1030 – 1100: Registration

Morning Session: Introduction to partnership working, Emma King consultant
Why work in partnership? What makes a good partnership? How can you boost your chances of creating great partnership work, and what do you do when things go wrong?

This interactive workshop will set the scene for the day, exploring the benefits (and pitfalls) different kinds of partnership working in an exhibitions context and discussing practical steps you can take to ensure your partnerships run smoothly. Led by experienced facilitator Emma King, the workshop will draw on participants’ own experiences with plenty of time for discussion and sharing.
