Geschlecht und Rasse in der NS-Medizin

Gender and Race in Nazi Medicine

The keywords eugenics, euthanasia and unethical human experimentation more or less sum up Nazi medicine. Recent research on the history of medicine and science has shown, however, that the distinction between Nazi medicine and "regular medicine" is not quite as clear cut. And while it has now become possible to describe the relationship between politics and medicine under National Socialism in more detail, the role of gender as a category has been noticeably neglected. This deficit is all the more surprising, as the discipline of historical women's and gender studies has produced some fundamental studies on the subject.

The 7th Ravensbrück European Summer School will bring together the approaches of historical gender studies with the history of medicine and science to gain insights into Nazi biopolitics and their historical dynamics.

Subjects: ? Nazi medicine and current genetic and reproductive technology ? Eugenics as gender and racial policies in the 20th century? Racial and gender-historical aspects of euthanasia ? Medical experiments at Ravensbrück ? Compensation policies

Travel grants to attend the Summer School are available for students from Poland and the United Kingdom.
