Dear Members,

It is my great pleasure to give formal notice to all members of BARS, that the next Biennial General Meeting of the Association will take place at the Glasgow 2011 Conference and to welcome all members to the meeting. The BGM will be held on Saturday 30th July between 12.30 and 14.00 in the James Arnott Theatre as detailed in the Conference Programme.

The BGM will elect/re-elect members and officers of the Executive Committee and receive reports from the officers of the Association on activities carried out since the last BARS BGM at Roehampton in 2009 and the current state of the membership and finances. The BGM will also be informed of the plans and preparation for the next BARS International Conference in 2013. I very much hope that you will be able to attend the BGM. The Glasgow Conference promises to be a really great event for BARS both intellectually and socially for all Romanticists and I am sure everyone who is able to attend this year is very much looking forward to being there. The Committee, as always, will be most grateful for your feedback and comments on BARS and suggestions as to the ways in which it can continue to fulfil the aims of the Association.

"Officers and members of the Executive Committee are elected by a majority of members present at the Biennial General Meeting. The Executive Committee may receive and propose nominations of candidates for election after not less than three weeks’ notice to all members. Unforeseen vacancies may be filled by decisions of the Executive Committee. Any member present at the Biennial General Meeting may act as proxy to no more than two absent members who will delegate to him/her in writing their vote to use as he/she sees fit. " Article VI British Association for Romantic Studies Constitution.

Best Wishes

Peter Kitson

President and Chair of the Executive Committee BARS
