Dear allstat,
PhD Scholarship - Quantitative Ecology or Statistics

The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is the leading national organisation researching tropical marine ecosystems. The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville Queensland, Perth Western Australia and Darwin Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support. Facilities are being enhanced with $55M of capital funds from the Australian Government. This will include a state-of-the-art experimental ocean simulator in an extensive seawater precinct to support innovative research into coral spawning, water quality and climate change.

The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Collaborative Centre for Data Analysis, Modelling and Computation is one of Australia's leading centres in applied mathematics and statistics. The Centre's Bayesian Research and Applications Group has active cross-disciplinary projects in environmental and ecological research.

AIMS and QUT have developed a new multidisciplinary project to undertake innovative research into the development and application of statistical methods to better understand patterns and processes in tropical marine biodiversity. We are seeking a postgraduate student to undertake a PhD as part of this project.

The PhD student will be located at the QUT Gardens Point campus in Brisbane. Graduates with Honours Class 1 or 2A in statistics or quantitative ecology, or equivalent qualifications or experience, are invited to apply. A tax-free scholarship of $22,000 per annum will be awarded for a period of three years. The PhD student will work closely with a Postdoctoral Fellow who will be located at the AIMS Research Facility in Townsville.

Application information is available from http://www.qut.edu.au/research/rhd/. Position enquiries may be directed to Professor Kerrie Mengersen; [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
