Research Fellow (PDRA) in bioinformatic and statistical analysis of bee viral immunity under mite infestation
Warwick Systems Biology Centre, Warwick University UK.
£27,428 - £35,788 pa (Appointments are usually made on the first point of the salary range)
Fixed Term Contract for 30 months

We have a 30mth PDRA position available working on an exciting project unraveling the causes of honeybee decline in the UK (and world-wide), focussing on the role of a new parasite, the varroa mite and its impact on the bee immune system. It will be a challenging project address the analysis of state-of-the art biological "omics" data and thus suit someone with an interest in analysis of biological problems and extracting information from high volume data sets. The project will utilise a range of analysis and modelling techniques, including statistical methods such as multivariate analysis, hidden variable models and potentially Bayesian computational sampling techniques such as MCMC. Bioinformatic analysis utilising a range of tools and databases such as BeeBase, Biomart & ENSEMBL will provide valuable functional context. Integration of these diverse data types will be essential, and thus the PDRA will have the potential to guide the chosen methodology. The project focus will be on answering key questions of the form and impact of the interaction using hypothesis testing and model selection techniques.

Possible backgrounds include statistics, machine learning, mathematics, physics, computer science, OR.
