The agreed exceptions for drug units in mass are: lithium, methotrexate and thyroxine as molar units are commonly used in the literature; mass units were agreed for pretty much the same reason. Cheers, J. PS - just as an aside - why does the Pathology Harmony list have Lithium as the only therapeutic drug expressed in molar units when all the others are in mass units? (Sorry if this has already been explained, but I thought it had been decided to use mass units for all therapeutic drugs.) J. Please can we have clarification on this as soon as possible from Pathology Harmony. If the target range for heart failure is 0.5-1.0 ug/L under what circumstances can the range be extended to 2.0 ug/L? We have changed the range in our computer (many phone calls from users), our handbook and telephone report pads. A change back within weeks will be embarrassing to say the least! They are target ranges, which are not the same!). -----Original Message----- From: Clinical biochemistry discussion list [mailto:[log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>] On Behalf Of Sally Brady Sent: 21 June 2011 13:59 To: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> Subject: Fwd: Digoxin Dear All, I don't know if you're aware but the Pathology Harmony RR for Digoxin has been extended since it was announced in the ACB news. The digoxin reference interval generated a lot of discussion and brought forward many concerns. At the last Harmony Meeting held 10th May we reviewed the proposed RR, and decided that we should extend the proposed range to 0.5 - 2.0 ug/L. It was recommended that a mandatory comment such "Target range in heart failure 0.5 - 1.0 ug/L" is added to the report.
