I think the role of  troponins is expanding from a test used for diagnosis of acute coronary syndorme (ACS) to one which also has prognostic implications. I feel that  primary care physicians should have a clear understanding of the difference. There can be a case made to significantly reduce the number of GPs requests to exclude ACS- but this has to be discussed with acute care physicians
