INSTITUTE OF GERMANIC AND ROMANCE STUDIES (IGRS)

 

APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR

 

The IGRS was established in 2004 with the merger of the two Institutes of Germanic Studies and Romance Studies, founded in 1950 and 1989 respectively.  It is one of the ten Institutes of the University of London's School of Advanced Study.  Its purpose is to promote and facilitate the study of the cultures of German-speaking and Romance language countries across a range of disciplines in the humanities.  The Institute fosters and contributes to national and international collaborative, cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural research by means of seminars, lectures, workshops, colloquia, conferences, and a fellowship programme.

 

Applications for the post of Director are invited from scholars of international standing in areas of study relevant to the Institute.  Alongside an excellent record of research and publications, the Director will bring vision along with the ability to provide strong academic and organisational leadership and will develop the Institute’s national role by sustaining and forging productive links with a national and international community of scholars.  

 

The appointee will be accountable to the Dean and Chief Executive of the School and will be expected to contribute to the management and governance of the School and to the development of its policies and practices.
