Science-policy project manager International Research
Programme Stockholm, Sweden 12 months, immediate start
The International Geosphere-Biosphere
Programme is seeking an experienced person to work at the science-policy interface.
In the coming year, IGBP is working towards the following goals:
ˇ
Supporting an international
scientific planning committee to prepare the programme of a major international
science conference in London in March 2012 to bring together several
communities around the goal of global sustainability
ˇ
Supporting and engaging the
IGBP research community in the transition to a new international structure for global
sustainability research
ˇ
Supporting the preparation of
white papers and policy briefs to contribute to the UN Earth Summit (Rio+20) in
June 2012
ˇ
Engaging the international
global-change research community, particularly those from developing countries,
in the conference and in providing input to Rio+20
ˇ
Communicating and engaging with
stakeholders in the conference, for example, policymakers, resource managers
(end users), industry, NGOs, media and the public.
ˇ
Preparing and supporting
scientific workshops on global-change research, and their outputs
ˇ
Attending the conference in
March 2012 and supporting follow-up activities and publications
ˇ
Fundraising and administering
travel funds to developing country scientists to attend the conference
ˇ
Developing data visualisation
products on global change issues in collaboration with data visualisation and
scientific experts
The
successful candidates will play a lead role in achieving all or some of these
goals, depending on their experience and skills. The person will work in a
small but diverse team at the IGBP Secretariat in Stockholm, Sweden.
Qualifications and skills
ˇ
5-10 years experience in
science communication and science management
ˇ
Proven science-policy experience,
in one or more countries.
ˇ
Excellent communication skills
in English. Other languages an advantage.
ˇ
Knowledge of international
science networks.
ˇ
Willingness to undertake
international travel.
The
position, which is full-time, is to be filled as soon as possible for 12
months.
